Post Workout {Re-Hydrating} Smoothie

A while back, while I was completed my Health Coach Certification, I watched a great seminar with David Wolfe, Raw Foodie. In describing how to put together a great smoothie, he talked about something that has always stuck with me: Living Water.

Basically, his concept was that hydration should come from multiple sources, including fruits & vegetables with high-water content. The water in these fresh foods is "Living Water".

This smoothie really embraces that concept. It's SUPER hydrating and incredibly nourishing for the digestive system. Those elements make it a FANTASTIC Post-Workout Smoothie, as it will quickly replenish needed glucose & electrolytes, plus the healthy fats from avocado & chia seeds will help to keep your blood sugar stable.  

And, of course, it's super delicious! 


Post Workout Re-Hydrating Smoothie

Makes 1-2 servings

Ingredients:

1 cup ice

1 cup coconut water

1 apple, cored & roughly chopped

1/2 avocado

1/2 cup cucumber, roughly chopped

2 cups (lightly packed) kale or spinach

1 tablespoon chia seeds

1 tablespoon raw honey

 

Method:

Add all ingredients into blender, with spinach/kale at the bottom. Blend until smooth & creamy. You can add more coconut water or ice to thin down, if needed.  

This smoothie can be made in advance of a workout, so long as you keep it nice & cool in your gym bag :)
